8 Reasons Small Businesses & Professional Service Firms Should Use Squarespace for Their Websites

Your Small Business Isn't "Cookie Cutter"; Why Should Your Website Be?

If you’re a solopreneur, small business owner, or professional service firm, you know keeping your website fresh, modern, and professional is incredibly important, but (like most entrepreneurs) you’re on a budget.

It’s likely that you asked someone who “had a website guy” to create a site for you. . .or perhaps you had a well-meaning friend or relative whip up a site for free — and now you're a little worried it's looking, well, less than fresh. (Maybe even a little "cookie cutter"? Uh-oh!)

Or maybe you don't even have a website yet, but are considering one.

Ok, so you need a website, or your current site needs refreshing and updating, but you’re not sure where to turn — or if you should switch over from your current hosting service.

After viewing dozens and dozens of small business owners’ websites, I strongly endorse Squarespace as the way to go for a much more manageable, modern, intuitive, customer-friendly website — not to mention easy to optimize for search engines (meaning more potential clients find you).

Here’s why Squarespace is the perfect solution (especially for small, local businesses):

1. Ease of Use

Squarespace’s simple, intuitive drag-and-drop functionality means that you (or your business/practice manager) can make edits extremely easily (with no coding required!).

This saves you time and money; no need to contact your “web guy or girl” every time you need a simple change made.

To keep high in the search engine rankings, you need to keep your site’s content fresh. Adding new content, photos, and blog posts with Squarespace is a snap!

What’s more, you can add your social media icons with a click of a button.

And that's just the beginning - you can add in videos, photo galleries, and contact forms, as well.

2. NO Plug-Ins

Rather than having a long list of Wordpress plugins to integrate, everything you need is right within the Squarespace platform.

I can’t tell you how many clients have told me horror stories about their Wordpress site “breaking” — about all the plug-in headaches and hosting confusion. . .

You’ll have none of that with Squarespace. It is powerful enough to do whatever you need, yet simple enough to manage with no knowledge of coding (though the flexibility is there to use coding if you want to).

3. Simple, Modern Design

Your website is your first impression and your 24-hour sales person. You need it to represent you and your practice professionally (without looking “home grown” or or “cookie cutter”).

Squarespace comes equipped with more than 40 templates — all of which are stylish and functional. The contemporary templates can instantly refresh your brand, and they come included at no extra charge.

4. It Formats Correctly (Extremely Important for SEO)

Your website will not only look amazing on laptops and desktops, but also on phones and tablets.  All Squarespace templates are automatically optimized for mobile and tablet.

This is key not only from a user standpoint, but also from an SEO (search engine optimization) standpoint, as well.

Google is now penalizing websites that are NOT mobile-optimized — meaning that your rankings go down, making you less discoverable to potential clients.

Squarespace’s native mobile optimization keeps you ranking high in the search engines, with no extra work on your part.

5. Reliable & Secure

Updates, maintenance, and security issues are all taken care of by Squarespace. You don't have to worry about your site going down.

If you do run into any problems (unlikely), Squarespace has incredibly responsive support.

6. Branded Email with Gmail

Squarespace has partnered with Google’s G-Suite to offer branded email.  This means if you want to have an email address with your domain name, you can! (Example: YourName@YourDomain.com).

The account functions just like a Gmail account.

Best of all, it’s very affordable: One free email address for the first year, then $50/year after that. (And additional email addresses are also $50/year.)

7. Free Scheduling With Acuity

If you are ready to automate your appointment schedule, Squarespace integrates seamlessly with their scheduling partner, Acuity. You'll get the VIP version (valued at $120/year) completely free.

You can create an appointment page right inside your website where patients can sign up for appointments, fill out intake forms, and get automated reminders — all with zero work on the part of your admin staff.

Or you can use it to schedule consult calls — again, with no extra work on your part. Easy peasy!

Check out my scheduling page for an example.

Squarespace is just $26/month — or $216 per year if you pay annually.

(And it’s actually cheaper for simpler sites; you can pay as little as $16/month or $144 annually for sites without advanced commerce functions.)

Not only is the fee affordable, just think about how much money you'll save by being able to make changes yourself. (No need to pay a designer every time you need to make a small change.)

The Final Word. . .

Keeping your site fresh, optimized for search engines, and professional is what brings in more clients.

If your small business is looking to update and upgrade your website (or if you are looking for your first website), I most definitely recommend Squarespace.
